Mr Shahnawaz Rasheed

I am an experienced General and Colorectal Surgeon currently working at The Royal Marsden Hospital, the London Clinic, the Bupa Cromwell Hospital London, and at One Welbeck Street. I’m also among the leading colorectal surgeons in the UK and people respect me as a highly-considered opinion leader.

I am on the on-call emergency surgical rota at The Royal Marsden Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and also cover general surgical and colorectal emergencies at The Royal Brompton Hospital.

I offer the full range of diagnostic services, including arranging any investigations necessary and I perform endoscopy – upper gastrointestinal (OGD) and colonoscopy as well as providing a comprehensive, excellent service in general and colorectal surgery.

Patients come to see me with an array of symptoms that need assessment, investigations and management. These may include bleeding from the bottom, a change in bowel habits with either looseness or constipation, pain in the abdomen, pelvis, or bottom, nausea and vomiting, the feeling of lumps or bumps or discharge of pus, or mucus, among other symptoms. Sometimes, people can be seen, examined, and reassured, or at other times further tests are required to make a diagnosis so that treatment can be undertaken. I work with outstanding colleagues in all specialties including world-class radiologists who report on any imaging that I request including ultrasound, CT, MRI and PET scanning which I may request as appropriate.

Being one of the leading specialists in the diagnosis and management of colorectal cancer, I see patients who have symptoms that need to be assessed and I receive referrals from GPs and other specialists from the UK and from around the world. I manage the full extent of surgical procedures for colorectal cancer, including endoscopic and early cancer treatment as well as standard surgical management of colorectal cancer and I also perform surgery on people with locally advanced and recurrent colorectal and anal cancer.

I work closely within an outstanding and highly effective, multi-specialty and multi-disciplinary team in the country’s leading hospitals for cancer care. I’m driven by quality and wish to deliver the best clinical and surgical care possible with kindness, compassion, and patient engagement. I also work with some of the world’s leading experts in gastrointestinal and colorectal surgical and oncological care. I’m proud to be a vital member of a distinguished multi-disciplinary team.

I also look after people with various benign and malignant abdominal, pelvic, colorectal, and anal conditions. These include diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease, hernias, haemorrhoids (piles), anal fistulas, anal fissures, pilonidal sinus disease, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis), constipation, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), sickness, and vomiting. I practice to the highest standards with a very approachable, compassionate, and engaging manner.
