Robotic surgical technology has been introduced over the last few years and is already considered the standard approach for managing some cancers, including for prostate cancer.
Mr Rasheed is one of the very few surgeons in the UK who uses the highly advanced Intuitive da Vinci Xi surgical robot to perform colorectal cancer surgery with excellent results and outstanding outcomes. This offers a precision-based approach to surgery with a high-definition, 3-D camera system and meticulous surgical dissection with wristed instruments to allow for reduced trauma to patients, minimal blood loss and faster postoperative recovery.
He has undergone a formal training programme through the structured Intuitive pathway which includes simulation and cadaveric training, and has been accredited to undertake robotic colorectal surgery since 2015.
The highly advanced Intuitive Da Vinci Xi robot has been used to operate on patients who need to undergo cancer surgery, including standard colorectal cancer operations but Mr Rasheed has also been using it to perform advanced cancer surgery. To our knowledge, Mr Rasheed and his team was the first to perform a total pelvic exenteration in the UK.
