Colorectal cancer is the 4th commonest cancer in the UK and results in the 2nd highest number of deaths from cancer. Between 10–20% of patients with rectal cancer present with locally advanced disease. Management of these patients requires a bespoke approach involving assessment, imaging, discussion through a complex multi-disciplinary team meeting with other specialists and recommendations discussed with patients in detail. Occasionally, an advanced surgical procedure is required to offer the best chance of cure. Mr Rasheed has performed hundreds of these kinds of procedures with an open and more recently, with a minimally invasive approach, using the Intuitive Da Vinci Xi surgical robot, with outstanding outcomes. His mortality rate is <0.05% which is among the best in the world. He also has a very low rate of surgical complications and very high patient satisfaction.
